Craftsmanship you can pass down
At our workshop we combine traditional joinery with careful finishing to produce durable, functional pieces. Whether you want a custom dining table, a set of turned bowls, or a restored heirloom, sensible design and quality materials are our priorities. Below you'll find our approach, popular projects, materials guide, and an easy way to contact us for commissions.
Our process — thoughtful from tree to table
Good woodworking begins with good wood. We select lumber based on grain, stability and suitability for the intended piece. The process typically follows these stages: design & consultation, material selection, joinery & rough assembly, drying and smoothing, finishing, and final inspection. Communication at each stage keeps commissions on track and ensures the final product fits your space and lifestyle.
We encourage clients to visit the shop during construction for updates or to request minor adjustments. Large pieces are photographed before delivery so you can see the joinery and finish choices up close.
Popular projects & inspiration
Some of our most-requested pieces are: dining tables with butterfly joints, live-edge coffee tables, bookcases with concealed hardware, and turned wooden bowls. Smaller items like cutting boards, coasters, and utensil sets make meaningful gifts and are quicker to produce. We also make custom doors, window sills, and built-ins that match existing millwork.
Materials & finishes
We work with locally sourced hardwoods when possible: walnut, oak, maple, cherry and ash are common. Each species has unique color and grain — walnut offers deep chocolate tones, maple is light and tight-grained, and cherry warms over time. For finishes we favor natural oils and waxes that highlight the wood while providing protection; for high-traffic surfaces we can apply modern polyurethanes with satin sheens for added durability.
Sustainable sourcing matters. We can match reclaimed wood with new lumber for mixed-material projects — it adds character and reduces environmental impact.
Shop safety and education
Safety is essential. Our shop maintains proper dust collection, machine guards, and PPE for all participants in workshops. If you join a class or book a private lesson, you'll receive a safety orientation covering tool use, setup, and safe practices. We believe in teaching fundamentals: measuring accurately, marking clearly, and prioritizing quality over speed.
Workshops are limited in size to ensure personal attention and a low-stress learning environment.
